Introduction
Do you ever find yourself waiting for your background tabs and pages to load in your Chromium web browser? It can be frustrating to switch between tabs and have to wait for them to load every time. But fear not! In this blog post, we will explore some simple solutions to fix this issue and boost your productivity.
Why is this happening?
The reason behind the delay in loading background tabs and pages in Chromium is a feature called ‘Tab Throttling’. It is designed to reduce resource consumption and improve battery life for users. When a tab is not in focus, Chromium limits the resources allocated to it, resulting in slower loading times.
While it may seem like a good feature to have, it can be bothersome for users who switch between tabs frequently or need information from multiple tabs at once.
Solutions to the problem
Disable Tab Throttling
The first solution is to disable Tab Throttling completely. Here’s how you can do it:
- Type ‘chrome://flags’ in your Chromium browser’s address bar and press Enter.
- Search for ‘Proactive Tab Freeze and Discard’ and set it to ‘Disabled’.
- Restart your browser for the changes to take effect.
Once you’ve disabled Tab Throttling, your background tabs and pages should start loading immediately, regardless of whether they are in focus or not.
Use Tab Discarding Extensions
If you still want to benefit from the resource-saving feature of Tab Throttling but also want your background tabs to load quickly, you can use tab discarding extensions. These extensions prevent tabs from fully discarding their contents and allow them to load faster when switched to.
Some popular tab discarding extensions you can try are The Great Suspender and Auto Tab Discard.
Conclusion
Don’t let slow loading background tabs and pages hinder your productivity. By following the solutions mentioned above, you can enjoy a seamless browsing experience in Chromium web browser. Whether you choose to disable Tab Throttling or use tab discarding extensions, you’ll be able to switch between tabs effortlessly and access the information you need without any delays. So go ahead, implement these solutions, and boost your productivity to new heights!
I’ve been having this issue for over a week now and I can’t seem to find any help. As the title says every background tab AND page stops loading when they aren’t focused on. I have browser games open in the background sometimes and they stop loading completely. And pages just stop and then continue when I click on the tab or page. Videos also have a tendency to disappear and become white/black boxes until I focus on the tab or page and then they suddenly reappear. Which sometimes bugs it out. I’ve tried reinstalling chrome, cleaning the cache and everything. Disabled all extensions to see if they caused it. Nothing fixed it. It just suddenly started doing it out of nowhere. So any help with this would be MUCH appreciated thanks.
